Tuesday, Apr-24 was disappointing because the Ontario budget passed with only a few modifications to appease the NDP including a wealth surtax, extra daycare help and corporate tax cut freeze. The hidden environmental amendments were ignored.
The 17 NDP MPPs abstained from voting so the budget passed 52 to 37 (PCs voting against the bill).  However, Mike Schreiner of the Green Party is calling on the Liberals to remove changes to the laws prescribed under the Environmental Bill of Rights from Bill-55 before final passage. That means we still have a chance to keep Ontario’s environmental laws strong … e-mail Dalton McGuinty, his Ministers and your local MP. Copy Mike Schreiner to show your support.

As a Resident and Taxpayer of Ontario, I object that omnibus Bill-55 is violating my right to comment on Environmental Bill of Rights (EBR)-prescribed legislation.  Please eliminate all references to amendments to Acts administered under the EBR from Bill-55 before final passage.  Changes to environmental laws should be addressed separately from the budget.  Thank you.
