Tiny Township Report – December 12 Council meeting
By Vickie Kee AWARE Tiny December 15 2011
Mark Calzavara, representing the Council Of Canadians, made a presentation to Tiny Council. He congratulated them on becoming a Blue Community and thanked them for stopping Dump Site 41 and for protecting our water.
Balm Beach parking
The hot issue of Balm Beach paid parking was brought forth again with a report from staff. Councillor Warren is not happy in giving up township property for three parking spots to the Georgian Grill. He stated that this would be a loss of revenue for the township. So where are the customers for this restaurant supposed to park! Deputy-Mayor Lawrence is unhappy with The Surf Restaurant for using some of the township property for parking. They only have a ten foot width of their own which is not long enough for a car so what are they supposed to do? Council has to be very careful in what they decide on. There are three sides here: the township, the businesses and the private beach owners.
Beausoleil FN invited to discuss wind turbines
Beausoleil First Nation was invited by Tiny Council to do a presentation on wind turbines at this meeting but declined. Warren suggests inviting them again because he thinks that there was a time line that was overlooked by staff.
Roger Robitaille recognized
Staff awards was handed out at the beginning of the meeting for their years of service with the township. One special mention is the award to Roger Robitaille for his forty years of service as Tiny Planner. He retired on May 31, 2011.
