Tiny Township Septage Meeting October 15, 2011 Report
By Vickie Kee AWARE Tiny
The Township Of Tiny is undertaking a Class Environmental Assessment Study to establish the preferred approach for providing septage and holding tank waste disposal services for the residents of the Township.
This meeting was Phase Two of the Study which dealt with “Alternative Solutions.” to the
Septage problem. The five Solutions are: Do Nothing, Contract Sewage Collection and Treatment, Contract For Disposal At Regional WWTP3, Construct
Full Septic Treatment Works, and Construct Partial Septage Treatment Works.
About 40 peoplw attended the meeting. After the presentation, Tiny residents were given the chance to ask questions of these “experts” which included Greg Athron from the MOE. I wonder
where we have heard that name before. Harry Hunt had a chance to give his opinion. He said that Tiny needs to partner with another Municipality and he
stated that you can not trust the MOE because they certainly didn’t help with Site 41, which made Mr. Athron smile!
Fran Sullivan, who lives across from the septage dump on the 15 Concession asks why does manure on her farm has to be put into bunkers and yet, human waste can be spread, out in the open.
Another interesting question is why Is Tiny accepting sewage from other municiipalities. Greg Athron replied that sewage from Midland and Penetanguishene is being transferred to New Lowell where it is treated and becomes bio-solids and then comes to be spread on the fields in Tiny Township!
I am wondering if there is a health risk here. Is any of this affecting our water?
