Blue-green algae is a very serious, very solvable problem

Cyanobacteria in our Lakes and Rivers across Canada and the US (better know as blue-green algae) is a very serious problem. It also a fairly common problem this time of year. Warm, still, stagnant water with too much nutrient will result in blue-green algae. There is a solution: make blue-green algae less common. How do you do this? Enforce environmental laws.
 
Is it duck weed or something worse?

A die-off of fish and mammals this past weekend in Keswick’s Maskinonge River has one local environmental group blaming blue-green algae and toxins from an abandoned aluminum smelter as the cause and some residents fearing for the safety of their drinking water.

BOBCAYGEON — A water-use warning is in effect for a section of Sturgeon Lake, between Sturgeon Point and Bobcaygeon, after the Ontario Ministry of the Environment (MOE) has confirmed the presence of blue-green algae.
