Nottawasaga Steelheaders alert on blasting
AWARE Simcoe July 11 2011
The Highland Companies has filed a new application for a Certificate of Approval for air and noise emissions for the mega-quarry. The EBR number is 011-3976, the notice is posted on the Environmental Registry and comment is required by July 29.
The Nottawasaga Steelheaders have sent out this alert regarding the blasting.
Stop this Insanity!!!!
Highlands Mega-Quarry Explosions
Your help is needed immediately. We all need to write a letter and comment in the attached link objecting to the permission of discharge to the atmosphere. No Environmental Assessment is required which is ludicrous. 20 Tonnes, that’s right, 20 tons of dynamite will be utilized each day. One tonne of discharge will fall to the floor as well which is where the water they say will be pumped (re-charged) into the underground aquifers. Are they crazy or are we dumb enough to let it happen. The fall out of nitryl oxides at this rate ( from 20 tonnes per day!) is extremely high and should require at least an EA.
Apparently 2-5% of explosive residues will remain in the exploded material and rock which will without a doubt fall into the aquifer water. I actually spoke with the reviewer a Mr. Sushant Agarwal requesting an extension as the allowed time is not sufficient to respond. You can comment on-line as well which I recommend you do also. See the link here to form for online comment or write your letter of objection by July 29th to:
