COLDWATER – The Chippewas of Rama and three other First Nation communities are one step closer to reaching a historic settlement that seeks to turn the page on an ugly chapter.
The federal government is proposing to pay $307 million in compensation to First Nations communities whose ancestors were displaced from more than 10,000 acres of land known as the Coldwater-Narrows Reserve close to 175 years ago.
At a press conference, held at Coldwater’s historic gristmill, Chief Sharon Stinson Henry said the negotiating process had been “long and tough.”
