When a new drum is received into a native community it is viewed as precious gift that must be blessed before used.
Students at Christian Island Elementary School (CIES) had the opportunity to celebrate a special cultural event on February 4th during a Drum Feast’ ceremony to bless a newly purchased drum. The entire school and guests witnessed as community Elders brought awareness to the importance of this traditional instrument which will bring much enjoyment to students as they learn to the play and sing. Afterwards everyone enjoyed a delicious feast together.
