Midland Council has given approval in principle to a Penetanguishene request to talk with the Midland police services board about the possibility of a joint police service.

Penetanguishene’s contract with the Ontario Provincial Police expires in December and council is reviewing its options for police services.
A letter to Midland Council from Penetanguishene emphasizes the town is pleased with the current service provided by the OPP.
What has prompted this review, the letter adds, is the pending renewal of the 0PP contract together with the proposed Midland–Penetanguishene joint urban node.
Some options being considered include: renewal of the OPP contract; expansion of the OPP contract to a larger service area within North Simcoe or joint policing within the proposed Midland-Penetanguishene joint urban node.
Both Tay and Tiny townships, which use OPP’s services, have been invited to participate in the review process.
Penetanguishene hopes to have the review completed before the June deadline for renewal or discontinuance of its contract with the OPP.
