The Township of Severn is on the lookout for a new chief administrative officer (CAO).
Eric Peterson retired from the position he held since 2001 at the end of October.
The career opportunity opened up last week.
Mayor Phil Sled, who is being replaced as mayor by newcomer Mike Burkett, said it would have been nice to have had the CAO in place before the newly elected council began serving.
“In my opinion, it probably would have been better to have someone in place,” Sled said.
Henry Sander, Severn’s director of corporate services who is serving as interim CAO, said continuity may be missing with a CAO stepping in at the same time as a new council.
A newcomer will also need to get up to speed on Severn, Sander noted. But he also said there are some benefits to both starting fresh.
The CAO oversees all departments within the township, reports directly to the mayor and council and advises them on how to execute the township’s strategic vision.
The successful candidate is also responsible for the economic development of the township and the recruitment and dismissal of staff.
