SPRINGWATER TWP.  — What Springwater Township residents have known for years is now an official part of the municipality’s branding.
The township officially unveiled its new logo and motto — The Heart of Simcoe County — during a ceremony on Monday.
A time capsule, to be opened in 50 years, was also put in place behind a bronze plaque celebrating the municipality’s new township hall, which officially opened in September 2009.
The new branding for Springwater was in the works for about two years, according to Mayor Tony Guergis.
“It’s good to let people know where we are and all the great things contained in our municipality,” he said. “It will help our business, tourism and the agritourism.”
The three colours in the new logo reflect different aspects of the township. The green represents Springwater’s strong agricultural roots and its strength in environmental innovation. The orange represents the welcoming attitudes of its communities. And the blue represents Springwater’s positioning between Lake Simcoe and Georgian Bay, as well as Orr and Little lakes.
The time capsule contains items such as photos of the 1994 and 2010 members of council, information on the building’s LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) elements, invitations from the 2009 grand opening and inaugural council meeting, a copy of the Proud to be from Springwater video, pictures of the 2010 Olympic Torch Relay drawn by local students and other snippets.
