He came into the election as the self-proclaimed ‘underdog’.
Now, Dan Davidson has become the deputy mayor for the Town of Innisfil. The owner of Davidson’s Restaurant and current town councillor defeated fellow candidate Bill Van Berkel for the deputy mayor’s seat during Monday’s municipal election.
“I’m in shock; I have nobody else to thank but the people who voted,” said Davidson. “The people of Innisfil wanted this. There are those who think I don’t have enough experience or my views are too drastic, but I really want to see Innisfil grow and move forward.”
Davidson, who is just completing his rookie term on council, has been one of the most vocal candidates during the election campaign. His stance on environmental protection, sustainable economics and booting the ‘Old Boys Club’ out of office clearly appealed to voters.
“Rod Boynton, I love working with; I respect the guy. Lynn Dollin, I respect totally,” he said. “I couldn’t ask for two incumbents better than those two. It’s great,
think Innisfil will turn a page.”
Davidson wants to ensure developers pay for infrastructure costs, service the Highway 400 and 6th Line campus node lands, and expand the town’s wastewater treatment plant. He also wants council to receive training to better understand the long-term impact of financial decisions.
