My name is Jay Pattison, I am a past director of CROH (Concerned Residents of Hillsdale) and on Oct 5th, 2010 I called into the Springwater Mayoral Candidate Debate that was televised on Rogers cable ten. My question to Linda Collins was this;

Jay; “I notice on your website you are close to former mayor Helen Coutts, who is assisting you in your campaign.  Does she own land in the designated settlement area for Midhurst?”
Linda; “Yes, I, my understanding, my knowledge is that Helen and Ron have um, been part of um, or have sold land, um to developers in the Midhurst settlement area. I don’t think that’s any, any surprise.”
Jay; “If Mrs. Collins is elected as Mayor would she not be in conflict when it comes to planning decisions on that property?”
Linda; “No, I don’t see any conflict. I don’t um, um, receive advice or um, comment about planning from people that are helping me with my campaign. Supporters don’t always have to give you money or um, or a tell you how they want their, their land, its… Once you sell land the developer takes over so I don’t see Coutts driving, driving that. It’s the Geranium that will be driving that corner of Midhurst development.”
1st The developer should not be driving anything. It should be the township’s planning department.
2nd It is very common for developers to pay a land owner a small retainer in the proposed purchase of any land and then pay the balance once the Springwater planning committee (which the Mayor sits on) approves the draft plan of subdivision.
Linda will or should know this, so why was the question answered that she will not be in conflict?
