I’ve been watching to see what candidates you endorse in Midland and haven’t seen anything yet on your website.

I’d like to suggest that if you are going to be transparent and accountable, you should use the same criteria as you did for our neighbouring community of Tiny Township.  Your reps based their decision on those candidates who consistently supported the Stop Site 41 efforts in a open and obvious fashion.  Mayor Jim Downer and Deputy Mayor Ruth Hackney never wavered in their opposition to Site 41, often facing ostracization from their colleagues at County Council.  Every vote taken at County Council was in opposition to the landfill project.  It was Jim Downer’s comments, concerning the susceptibility and fragility of the aquifer that serves South Simcoe that opened the lines of communication regarding threats to areas such as Alliston and Tottenham.  This was the beginning of the end for Site 41, thank God.

AWARE Simcoe note: The AWARE organization leaves the decision to endorse or recommend candidates to the local AWARE group in each municipality. AWARE Tiny has not endorsed candidates but has worked hard to put information before the voters. Some members of the Site 41 group have endorsed candidates in Tiny and that information is posted on their website.
