Hughes acclaimed in Oro-Medonte

Oro-Medonte Township will be under the same leadership for the next four years.
Incumbent mayor Harry Hughes has been acclaimed to the top position after no one registered to run against him by Friday’s close of nominations.
Coun. Mel Coutanche has also been acclaimed as Ward 1 representative.
But Coun. Sandy Agnew is risking his Ward 3 seat to run for the position of deputy mayor against incumbent Ralph Hough.The only incumbent not running this year is Ward 2 councillor Terry Allison. Vying for the Ward 2 seat are Michael Vadergeest and Kelly Meyer.
Hoping to fill Agnew’s position in Ward 3 are Marty Lancaster and Wayne Simpson.
In Ward 4, there are three candidat e s : incumbent John Crawford, Nancy Stoddart and Gordon Roehner.
Incumbent Dwight Evans wants another term as Ward 5 councillor, but Joannie Spence and David Edwards have also thrown their hats in the ring.
For trustee of the Simcoe County District School Board, incumbent Peter Beacock is seeking re-election. Running against him is Stephen Barker. Vying for the Simcoe Muskoka Catholic District School Board are two newcomers, Lydia Reekie and Francis Smith.
Running for trustee of the French-Language Public District School Board are Guy Belcourt and Eric Lapointe and for the French- Language Separate District School Board, Cindy Labas, Luc Gagnon, and Adrien Lamoureux.
In 2006, of the 16,806 eligible voters in Oro-Medonte, only 37% turned out to vote (6,218 voters.)
