Oro-Medonte news release – September 8, 2010
The Council of the Township of Oro-Medonte voted in favour of agreeing to a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between itself, the Nottawasaga Valley Conservation Authority (NVCA), and the Severn Sound Environmental Association (SSEA) that outlines the roles of each organization in the delivery of environmental programs and services for the Severn Sound Watershed within the Township moving forward.
The creation of the MOU comes as a result of Council’s direction to Township staff in April of 2010 to proceed with the development of an agreement in partnership with the NVCA and SSEA that clearly identifies the environmental program and service delivery that each party will offer in the Severn Sound Watershed.
Through a cooperative process that involved the NVCA, SSEA, and numerous public meetings, the establishment of the MOU will allow the Township to successfully achieve its strategic priorities of improving its residents’ quality of life, environmental protection, fiscal responsibility, and improved customer service.
The MOU, which will go before the Board of Directors of both the NVCA and SSEA in the near future, clearly identifies the specific responsibilities of each organization, eliminates the duplication of service delivery as identified in a January 2009 staff report, and implements a mechanism that will measure the efficiency of the services being delivered.
The agreement will also ensure that the environmental programs and services executed within the Township will continue to meet all provincially legislated environmental regulations.
The Township of Oro-Medonte would like to thank the NVCA and SSEA, as well as the members of the public who took part in the public consultation sessions carried out in May and June of 2009 for their constructive input that enabled an agreement to be reached.
