News release from the Rob Keffer campaign – September 1 2010
Rob Keffer, a leading member of Simcoe County’s agricultural community, will be a voice for the taxpayer if elected as Deputy Mayor of Bradford West Gwillimbury.
Keffer says a top priority is to ensure residents are able to fully participate in the Town’s decisions.
“I want to put the future of our Town in the hands of the people, not in the hands of consultants,” he said. “Bradford West Gwillimbury residents pay the highest property taxes in the County, and that will only get worse if we continue at the present pace of unprecedented growth.”

Keffer noted that the Town is struggling to keep up with its own growth. “The current increases in property taxes from new houses hardly cover the increased payroll costs for the new full-time positions created under the White/Roughley administration.” “We have to be fiscally responsible today to have affordable taxes for tomorrow,” he said.
Keffer, a long-time resident of Bradford West Gwillimbury, has a strong commitment to and understanding of Simcoe County.
“Simcoe County has the unique characteristics that are the envy of any municipality in North America,” Keffer says. “From the rich farmland starting at the Holland Marsh to the tranquil beauty of Lake Simcoe, to the scenic beaches of Georgian Bay, to the breathtaking views of the Collingwood area, Simcoe County is truly a great place to live.”
If elected Deputy Mayor, Keffer is keenly aware that it will be part of his responsibility to oversee the County’s $500 million budget  that takes almost one third of everyone’s property tax dollar.
“We need a County Council that is open and accountable to the people. The current residents of Simcoe County should be the ones making decisions that will affect the County’s future.”
