From the SCOOP on Lake Simcoe email publication of Environmental Defence September 22 2010
Some Innisfil Councillors mused in the press last week about a letter from Environmental Defence, regarding the Town’s sewage treatment plant expansion (STP) Environmental Assessment (EA). The letter, written by Claire Malcolmson, was sent to an Innisfil staff planner, Innisfil engineers, Ministry of the Environment staff, and the STP EA consultant. Despite some councillors’ very strong and public objections to the questions we raise, Malcolmson will continue to ask questions and provide advice about the EA process to ensure that the extra phosphorus pollution to the lake from the future STP expansion is part of a broader plan in Innisfil to reduce total phosphorus loads to the lake. These efforts are part of Campaign Lake Simcoe’s work on the implementation of the Lake Simcoe Protection Plan.
