SPRINGWATER TOWNSHIP – A portion of St. Vincent Street now has paved shoulders to improve safety for motorists, pedestrians and cyclists.
Mayor Tony Guergis said it’s part of ensuring that active transportation alternatives to the township’s new administration centre are encouraged and supported.
“There are bike racks on the site, and staff and residents are encouraged to bike when possible, and to make use of the 77-acre campus the administration centre sits on,” he said
“If people are able to cycle as an option to get around, and they’re able to be more physically active, they’re able to reduce vehicle emissions and spare the air and improve air quality,” said Dr. Charles Gardner, medical officer of health for the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit. “If they’re able to do it in a safe way, like with paved shoulders, that is critical.”
