Letter to the Editor Collingwood Enterprise Bulletin August 13 2010
We moved our family to this beautiful location 20 years ago. We came for the clean, clear air, the hiking, swimming, skiing/boarding and  golf. We delight in the birds; the wildlife sightings; the trout in the fast-flowing streams in the spring; the extensive trails; the snowy, cold winters; the rural, green vistas and spectacular Nottawa Bay .  I think this is why most of us come to Simcoe County. Are these slowly disappearing? When we realise this will it be too late?

As we continue to expand, precious wetlands are threatened;  the World Biosphere, local treasure at our footsteps: the Niagara Escarpment, is being violated; the farmlands and escarpment lands are rapidly turning into commercial developments; increased traffic is causing congestion and car fumes; the cherished, small-town community interactions are  less evident and litter/vandalism are on the rise.
Re-examine what brought you here. What qualities draw in the tourists by the thousands? Without our natural attractions we become an everywhere place. It is the responsibility of every citizen to learn what values your councilors represent. Only vote for the politician who shares your hopes and dreams; otherwise, before all that you cherish is  altered; once gone, can you reverse the trend? Know what your politicians value; vote to reflect the environment you come to this area to enjoy.
Attend the local AWARE-Simcoe meeting on Saturday, August 14,10 a.m.-12:30 p.m. at the Father Allanrd Hall, St. Mary’s Church, 63 Elgin St. Collingwood
incerely,
