A Thornton area resident has entered the race for Essa Township’s deputy mayor seat.
Shawn Bubel, who lives on the 11th Concession, will be facing off in this fall’s election against Sandie Macdonald, who is the current councillor in Angus.
Bubel is currently a special assistant to Patrick Brown, the federal MP in Barrie, and has worked previously in insurance, government operations and small business.
He most recently applied unsucessfully to become a public school trustee for Barrie Wards 1, 2 and 3 in April.
“Basically, it’s been seven years since the people of Essa have had any say in who represents them,” he said, in a press release. “There are great people living in Essa. We are people who care about our community.
“We care about our environment and about our future. If voters are given the choice of moving in a new direction or simply settling for more of the same, I think they will respond optimistically.”
Bubel believes he can make a difference for the residents of Essa as deputy mayor, and is launching a positive campaign focused on transparency, better communication with residents and improving the way of life for his neighbours.
Bubel has a campaign website at www.servingessa. ca.
The incumbent deputy mayor Terry Dowdall is running against current mayor Dave Guergis for Essa’s top political post.
Nominations close on Sept. 10, with the election taking place on Oct. 25.
