Ward 1 councillor Christine Brayford made it official this morning and registered to run for New Tecumseth deputy mayor.
Ms. Brayford’s entry marks the first time in over 10 years that two incumbents from the same council will oppose each other for the second in command post which also comes with a County council seat.
Incumbent deputy mayor Rick Milne has filed for reelection, and Doug Weatherall, whose family owns and operates Rolling Acres Campground in Alliston, is also running.
Ms. Brayford, first elected to council in 2006, had previously registered to run in the new Ward 3.
“I have been very involved as an active participant on several committees for the Town. I am dedicated, hardworking and ready to take on the challenging job as deputy mayor,” noted Ms. Brayford in an email this afternoon. “I will bring new ideas, I will work hard, and I have the knowledge and dedication required to effectively carry out the responsibilities of deputy mayor.”
