Springwater Mayor Tony Guergis says he is not the person behind the telephone poll in which Springwater residents are being asked their views on local political issues.
“No, I’m not a candidate in the election,” he said in a telephone interview.
(The Municipal Elections Act prohibits raising or expenditure of funds, or use of paid services, by or for a candidate before that person has filed nomination papers.)
As to who might be behind the poll, Guergis replied: “I think you can guess.” Asked to elaborate, he said he had a good idea but would not provide any more details.
The Township of Springwater has denied commissioning the poll, as has Bill French, the municipality’s only mayoral candidate so far.
This makes for quite a mystery as one of the questions is: who would you vote for, Bill French or Tony Guergis.
“Really,” was Guergis’s comment when told about the question.
Asked whether he is going to run for mayor, Guergis said he hasn’t decided yet.
