ADJALA- TOSORONTIO – Joy Webster has withdrawn her name from the list of candidates running in the 2010 Adjala-Tosorontio municipal elections based on the needs of her family.
Webster, the current Ward 4 councillor, had put her name down to run for the deputy mayor spot currently held by Doug Little.
She was the first and only candidate to contest the deputy mayor seat.
In an e-mail to family, friends, town staff and the media, Webster said, “This difficult decision is based on the needs of my family and circumstances that will be impacted by the commitment of a four year term at this time.”
She thanked her family, friends and the Adjala-Tosorontio community for their support during her term as Ward 4 councillor. She said she would continue on council until her term ends.
Webster also noted she might return to politics, saying, “I sincerely hope to earn the privilege to return to my work on council at some time in the future.”
There are currently no other candidates vying for the deputy mayor spot.
Jack Jordan is running for mayor. Several newcomers have also indicated their intention to run.
Steve Brockman and Floyd Pinto are running for councillor Ward 1, Scott W. Anderson is running for councillor Ward 5 and Tom Gauley is contesting Webster’s spot in Ward 4.
