Simcoe County has announced details of its public information sessions, the first less than one week away. For each location, the open house portion of the session (an opportunity to “dialogue” with the consultants) starts at 4:30 and runs to 7 p.m. The public meeting portion, when residents can provide input and hear what other members of the community have to say, is to run from 7 to 8 p.m.
Monday February 8, Nottawasaga Inn, 6015 Highway 89, Crystal Ballroom, Alliston
Tuesday February 9, Wasaga Beach RecPlex, 1724 Mosley Street, Oakville Room, Wasaga Beach
Wednesday February 10, North Simcoe Sports and Recreation Centre, 527 Lens Self Boulevard, Bill Thompson Room, Midland
Important:
The consultants will pressure attendees to fill out written comment sheets which they have stated will be very useful in case of an environmental assessment – of what project they may have in mind, we do not know.  We have a concern about members of the public filling out the comment sheets after having talked only to the consultants, who are skilled and persuasive and may be guiding you to a particular position. In fact, if there are questions on the comment sheet, they may be designed so that the answers can be interpreted in a certain manner to an environmental tribunal. Wait until the public meeting portion of the evening before submitting your comments, or better yet, do more research at home before committing yourself. It’s worth taking some time; the decision Councillors will be making at the end of this process will have major environmental and economic implications for Simcoe County.
