The following letter has been sent to Zero Waste Simcoe members by chair Gord McKay. ZWS would like to hear from any member of the public who’s concerned about waste management in Simcoe County.

Simcoe County is rapidly developing its new waste management master-plan. While acknowledging the importance of public review and input, the County has set a deadline of June 2010 to complete its work. That work is underway.
On January 18th, 2010 the County’s waste strategy Committee will meet with its consultant, Stantec, to start selecting the options that will make up its waste master-plan. The selected options will define the County’s waste future for the next 20 years.
At this time all options are on the table. Options include:
–         require a green procurement policy
–         develop new recycling facilities
–         export waste outside the County
–         pursue new long-term landfill site

See further outline of options at http://www.zerowastesimcoe.org/ and email ideas to admin@zerowastesimcoe,org
