Essa Township’s deputy mayor, Terry Dowdall, has entered the race for mayor in this fall’s municipal election.
Dowdall said he had registered to run for the position on Friday.
“After two terms as deputy mayor, I think that its time to step-up and run for the mayor’s position.”
Current mayor Dave Guergis announced his decision to run earlier this month.
Dowdall, who owns the Baxter Corner Store, was first elected to council as a councillor in 2000. He was elected deputy mayor in 2003 and was re-elected in 2007.
Candidates have until Sept. 10 to register to run in the municipal election, which will be held on Oct. 25.
