Springwater Ward 1 Councillor Dan Clement, who presently represents Elmvale and immediate environs, is set to get quite a few more constituents. The question: which ones? The problem: Ward 1 comprises only 12.7 per cent of the township poulation, compared to 27 per cent in Reg Cowan’s Ward 2 (the rest of the north, down to Road 3). Various redistribution options were presented to council. According to one of our observers at the Nov. 2 meeting, Clement favoured the option that extends the boundary north to Tiny, west to Wasaga and south to Flos Rd. 7, stopping at the baseline on the eastern side. But he was in a minority of one. What his council colleagues chose for him instead: a ward that has the same north/south boundaries but shifts easterly, with Usher’s Rd. as the western limit and over to the Medonte border at the east. The issue, our observer surmised, was: who gets the Orr Lake cottagers? Clement lost.
