News release from Garfield Dunlop
(Queen’s Park) –Today the provincial legislature passed second reading of Simcoe North MPP Garfield Dunlop’s private member’s bill, Bill 32, Disposal Site 41 in the Township of Tiny Act, 2008. The House voted 40 to11 to approve second reading of the bill.
“I am very pleased with the support shown by all three parties here in the legislature today. However, there is much more that needs to be done,” said Dunlop. Our challenge now is to get the bill through the Standing Committee on Justice Policy and onto third reading.”
The purpose of the bill is to remove and revoke all provincial approvals at Site 41, also known as the North Simcoe Landfill. The bill is similar to that of the Adams Mine Lake Act that prohibits a landfill from being placed on the Adams Mine in Kirkland Lake.
“We are all going to continue to fight to ensure that the province revokes the Certificate of Approval and that is up to the McGuinty government,” added Dunlop. “I want to thank all the people for taking the time and effort to support me on this bill.
