David Crombie and others to urge support for Bill 32

News release from Stop dump Site 41

Supporters of the Stop Dump Site 41 movement will gather at Queens Park Thursday to rally in support of a Private Member’s Bill put forward by Simcoe North MPP Garfield Dunlop.
Simcoe County Council voted on Sept. 22 to halt construction and future development of Dump Site 41 but did not revoke the Site 41 Certificate of Approval, which leaves the door open for a change of mind by this or a future council, or a sale to a landfill developer.
Bill 32  an Act to prevent the disposal of waste at Site 41 in the Township of Tiny, got first reading in March, 2008. It proposes revocation of the Certificate of Approval, as well as compensation for Simcoe County.
Buses are leaving Elmvale at 9:15 a.m. (call 705-322-1340 to reserve a seat). Supporters will rally outside the Legislature at 11:30 a.m. and then watch when Bill 32 goes to second reading and a vote after 1:30 p.m.. A news conference will be held at 12:15 PM in the Queens Park media studio in the main Legislative Building.
Speakers:
David Crombie Tiny Township cottager, former Toronto Mayor and federal Cabinet Minister
Vicki Monague of Beausoleil First Nation, member of the Anishinabek Women’s Water Commission
Judith Grant  President of the Federation of Tiny Township Shoreline Associations
Stephen Ogden of Tiny Township, a Dump Site 41 opponent for 25 years.
