Simcoe Grey MP Helena Guergis, Minister of State Status of Women, has weighed into the waste management debate on behalf of a “constituent of mine.”
In a letter addressed to Warden Tony Guergis and county council, Ms. Guergis noted that she was approached by Jim Wright of Wright Tech Systems of Richmond Hill who “informed me of this company and how they are using GREEN technology to dispose of waste.”
“Mr. Wright has advised me that he was (sic) spoken with council officials in regards to the county councilors (sic) receiving a presentation by Wright Tech Systems Inc,” according to the letter on her MP letterhead. “As his Member of Parliament I feel it is my responsibility to encourage you to consider this presentation about alternative waste management technology (she includes his web site and cell phone number). I encourage you to consider the request made by Mr. Wright. I think his ideas will help the county in their future decisions on waste management.”
The letter is included on Simcoe County council’s corporate services committee meeting agenda tomorrow morning. Waste management has been a hot topic of late in Simcoe because of Site 41 in Tiny Township. That’s now been killed as a county project, and a waste management review is about to commence examining alternatives.
New Tecumseth mayor Mike MacEachern, vice-chair of corporate services, was asked this morning if it’s usual for an MP or MPP to make such overtures on behalf of others, to the County, he said “it happens.”
A message to Ms. Guergis’ Ottawa office was not returned at this post.
